The story of the 2003 version of the Mice can be told in
one word. Trend. Even numbered years, like 2004, treat the Mighty Mice very well (24-15-3), whereas odd numbered
years are bad (13-29-0) The Super Bowl V champs will look to capitalize on the even numbered year and return to the
playoffs for the fourth time in team history.
2004 Outlook:
As the defending champs the Mice failed to defend their
crown. The highly touted group of WRs failed to meet expectations, and they never got it going in 2003. The offseason
was about looking to the future, and they did that by adding youth to the QB position. Chad Pennington steps in as the
starter, while second pick Eli Manning will be the heir apparent to join Pennington. The only question is when will
that happen. Fred Taylor returns after being resigned in the offseason and will relied upon heavily in the running game.
The most important issue for the Mighty Mice is not who becomes an impact player in 2004, rather, the importance is will the
impact players produces as expected. If so, this could well be another great even numbered year.
